How would you bid these hands?

But, I really don't like the first-seat pass.

At mp's I would at least cue 3♦ on the way to 3♠ and hope pard can work it out. Pard did backtrack over 2nt and I still forced to 3♠ showing higher ambitions after all. If pard divines the 2nt bid as a sketchy spade stopper (as in Kx or so) and a big diamond source of tricks they have plenty of offence.
Many would have opened the north hand but my partnership wouldn't (well, 50-50 at worst) so my pard may well bid game here but not a cinch by any means.

2.South 1 ♠ Tricky descission. Your hand is usually worth one bid, so double is a close choice, but I would bid 1♠ too.
3. 2 ♦ I hope you play fitjumps, else 3 ♣ as a minisplinter looks much better- for this hand. Without this tool, I would bid 2 ♦ too.
4. South pass? well done.
5. North pass? No no never. You have a nine card fit, a shortage, there is no way to let them play 2 NT. Bid 3 ♠ if you are looking at the king of diamonds, or 4 ♠ if you look at the rest.

I think that North needs to double rather than pass after the 2NT bid.

We'd follow the 1♦-1♠-2♠-4♠ route though

1d=2h(reverse flannery)
etc gets you to game.

yes! 2NT is a textbook blunder bid that deserves to get whacked hard.

Thinking you get to play it here is ummm......... Along the lines of Evian Pure Spring water spelled backwards. Naive

Personally, I suspect that 2NT was intended to show the minors or some such.
If they were red, I'd pass
As is, I double. If they run to 3m, I can now bid 3♥ showing extra trump length and heart values.
(My failure to originally bid 3H means that partner won't play me for a 5+ card suit)

P-P-3♦ I just bid 4♠ partner is then known to have 0-1♦ and this is huge.
3♦-P-P is more awkward. I probably double, if partner leads a heart or A♣, I could easily get 2 hearts, club, spade, 2 club ruffs and on a good day with a following wind (declarer has KQ, Qx in the majors) another trump.

I suppose they might have meant that, although it wasn't shown as such.

Maybe I have seen too many bad players make these solo flights to 2NT. Even if they usually run, we are no worse off, just get back to business i.e. spade contract. In fact we have some extra options (example per hrothgar). Anyway, the main point is that north's final pass is very bad.

perfect tox shape and it you were a teensy bit stronger
you probably would have x vs 1s. Even though p is a
passed hand surely game should be considered. IMO
the best way to contnue is 3h. A case can be made for
3d but lets face it we relly need heart help to consider
game and the 3h bid allows p to focus their attention
on the heart suit.
As luck would have it they could raise to 4h if they had only
3 spades for original raise. Here it is far better to bid 4s
with the strong double fit and side shortness.

I think passing over 2 NT with south hand is pretty bad too. Not seeing N hand, from south i would think East has solidish diamonds which makes me bid auto 4♠.(assuming it is imps) Why would east try to show his pd that he has 18/19 balanced hand when opps bid and other one cued ?

I find nothing to disagree with in this post. Nth's third round pass is appalling!
