Playing in a small Sectional tourney, playing a very aggressive 2/1 style, you hold:

Scoring: IMP

Pard deals and opens 1. RHO overcalls 2, and you bid?

.
.
At the table I bid 2. LHO bid 3, pard bid 4. RHO passes. Now what?

Your comments regarding the initial 2 bid and continuations from this point on are appreciated.

2S was fine. Over 4C I guess I would bid 5C.

Hi,

assuming 2S is forcing, 2S is ok,
... the meaning of 4S is probably
not 100% clear.
4C should be a splinter with spade
support, since I have wasted values
in clubs I, and I dont really believe
in my support theory, I give up,
i.e. I bid 4S.

Assuming you trust your partner 100%,
and believe in the my outlined
support theory, you could bid 5S
as a general slam try (what ever
it asks for, probably for a diamond
control ...)

With kind regards

This one seems easy. Over 2, bid 4. If LHO goes to 5 and pard passes, I double.

4S is what I would bid without the KQ of clubs. This hand seems too strong.

My pard has shown strength opposite my 4 loser hand. Part doesn't promise spade support, but he should at least have tolerance by inference.

My sense if that pard has a club void, but I can't be 100% sure.

A small slam is a near certainty and a grand is possible.

I would return cue 5. It shows a control. It also indicates some flaw, since my hand didn't RKC. Hopefully, I'll hear 5, and I can cue my heart void.

Another idea is to try 5. We "know" pard has a club control, so he'll either bid 6 with the stiff or 6 with the void (I don't think he has the A). Over 6, we can try 6, which has to be Last Train.

Tough hand and I'll be interested in other's comments.

4S now over 4clubs. Mr. Conservative

Will not not show H void over 4nt RKC
Maybe p can cue 5d over 4S?

2S was a great bid.

I don't agree. To me 4C says nothing about club controls. It just says partner has a hand too good to jump to 4S (which could be made with just about any hand that has 4 trumps, or a 14 count with 3 trumps, or many hands with a singleton.) If partner had say, 18-19 balanced with 2 small clubs and 3 spades I would expect him to bid 4C.

I agree with 2, the hand is too good for a direct 4S.

I think that 3H (and obviously also 3D) over 3C would be forcing, so 4C should promise spade support. It does not show a club control. 5C looks right, I'm bidding 6S over partner's 5D.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Thank you all for your comments. Needless to say, I found this hand too difficult at the table, and signed off in 4S, discounting my club stuff and not relishing my heart void. Pard's hand:

I am not so sure this hand is worth 4 but it certainly was the magic hand for slam. We pushed the board at +680.

Go cuebidders! :)

Yeah, but the club honors are in RHO's suit and they're of the wrong kind. As you see from the actual hand, they're as good as xxx ;)
