I don't feel this is a strange 4♦ at all. Partner knows of your ♠ void, and his singleton ♥ implies a lot of trick taking potential for the combined hands if you have the ♦ fit as expected.

I'm not convinced your double is right. I'd bid 2♥ and depending on the auction a double or a ♣ bid or a pass next round. And having doubled first round I'd bid 4NT (if that is not annotated as RKCB for ♦) or 5♣ after 4♦.
