MPs. Seems a clear double the first round to me, but LHO bidding 1 and RHO reversing wasn't how I saw the auction proceeding. The opponents aren't ones to psych, though aren't strong players. What next?

First thought: 2.

On second thought: would opp rebid with 5? If so, pass looks attractive, intending to bid if opp does not show 5.

So partner has nothing and maybe a few clubs. I can see 8/9 tricks in and maybe more in . 2 may be the end of it

Partner needs no more than xxxxx in clubs for 11 or Kxxxx for 12 potentially

Would have seriously considered 2 (specifically the blacks good/bad for us) first time

2 is the majors here, so not a consideration.

Does noone bid 1/1?

Our range for a simple overcall is 7-18 points, so our "strong hand" double is 19+, but this hand is worth more than its 18 HCP so I would also X. 1 might work better here but I think that's resulting.

Didn't we say 'cue under, natural over' or is this now different with 3 suits bid? 2S now looks like asking for a spade stopper.

Jim, yes this traditionally a double then bid hand. I am beginning to prefer bidding these 2 suited hands rather than starting with a X.
These hands don't come up very often, I will try to monitor my success rate. :)

edit; I wouldn't be surprised to see that we were fixed by our perhaps inexperienced opponents, and our failure to bid 1S

Bidding one spade then clubs is a reasonable option

I was all set to bid 2, though then wondered what I was actually intending to achieve - there's no way partner is responding, and the opponents are already forced to the three level. Will bidding just help them more? Are the bidders planning to bid 4 next? Maybe 1 was right after all, though I still don't think I could risk that.

Anyway, I decided I'll pass and see what happens, and the auction continued to surprise..

Double and they will run. Pass , take the plus.
