Hi
Has anyone read the book Card Pro bidding system by Ron Feldman?
Interesting book. Lots of new ideas, particularly for Slam queries. The ideas can be incorporated irrespective of your bidding system.

I read the summary on Amazon.com, but I am not interested in a 5-cd Major System.

However, how does the 4-cd minor opening bids work? I am interested in learning that design. Posted Image

What does Pro Card open with 4=3=3=3, 3=4=3=3, 4=4=3=2, and 4=4=2=3 out of the 1NT range?
Ultra Relay: see Daniel's web page: https://bridgewithda...19/07/Ultra.pdf
C3: Copious Canape Club is still my favorite system. (Ultra upgraded, PM for notes)

Santa Fe Precision published 8/19. TOP3 published 11/20. Magic experiment (Science Modernized) with Lenzo. 2020: Jan Eric Larsson's Cottontail . 2020. BFUN (Bridge For the UNbalanced) 2021: Weiss Simplified (Canape & Relay). 2022: Canary Modernized, 2023-4: KOK Canape.

From the introduction (see the Read sample on the Amazon page):

Quote

Card Pro has the ability to be able to incorporate Power Bids by repurposing the Opening 1NT bid to show 12+ - 16- HCP Balanced Hands, and Opening 2 to show 16+ - 19- HCP Balanced Hands.

I bought the book anyway. Posted Image

Feldman has an interesting Slam Approach - 2NT rebid by either partner asks for Key Cards, then Trump Honors, then non-trump Primary Controls, etc.

I wonder if I can use this with my Canape system?

Some misprints and a few contradictions. Otherwise, very interesting distributional approach.

You must have a wonderful partner!

Are you familiar with an old system devised by Larry Weiss, Simple Club?
Strong club, Canape
Many ideas borrowed from Blue Team and Roman Club.

Yes, I have the 2nd edition pamphlet, 1989.

Also, The New Awakening, 2007 is a modernized version of The Simplified Club.

The Canary Club is also similar, 1960s.

A more complicated version of a canape system is UBC:

Unbalanced Club, 2022, A Strong Club System using Symmetric Relays, Canape, and many transfer bids to allow the strong hand to be declarer.

Authors Joe Houde and Andrew Loh. An 8 1/2 x 11 book of 322 pages.

Joe can be found on the BBO.com site.

My local partner and I have been practicing Card Pro against two Gib Robots on BBO for 2 weeks.
I call it Reverse Precision as the 16+ hcp hands are identified by opener in 4 distinct ways:
1) Rebidding 1NT (Artificial & Forcing with 16+ hcp) after Opening 1 of a suit (unbalanced) asking Responder if s/he has 9+ hcp,
2) Rebidding 2 (Artificial & Forcing with 16+ hcp) to Responders response of 1NT to any 1 of a suit opening asking Responder if s/he has 9+ hcp,
3) Opening 2 = 16-19 balanced,
4) Opening 2 = 20+ hcp Balanced or Game Force
Roman 2-bids in the Majors (5M + 4) allow Opener to rebid 2 over a 1NT response as Artificial & Forcing.
1NT is 12+ to 16-
Reverses and Jump Shifts by Opener are limited to 15 hcp.
2/1 Game Forcing is the rest of the system.
Many Slam Auctions are initiated by either partner jumping to 2NT (promising 4 trumps and slam interest).
The Follow-ons are complicated but well thought out to investigate possible slam at the 3-level starting with Key-Cards.

Opening 2 with 16-19 balanced seems pretty poor, as does the wide 1nt range. Having no preemptive two bids is likely to cost in real games too (but not so much in bidding practice).

I suppose in exchange your one bids are all natural and unbalanced? But this seems to go against frequency rules. It seems like you’d do better to (for example) put 16+ balanced in 1, play 2 as 4+ and a 5+ major, and free up 2M as a weak two bid.

Do you have a feel for how this system is doing in bidding practice?
