Please don't make this 3NT promise so much (25-32). I think there was a cleanup of bidding game opposite a technically "0+" partner, but maybe this particular sequence escaped.

Yes gwnn should have checked the range before he bid it. Shame on gwnn.

I think GIBBO is happy if you bid 3NT over 3D. the blurb if I remember is 16-22 or something.

Bidding over preempts it is recommended you assume partner has some values, maybe 6-8. Yes, when partner has 0 your down, but if you don't partner isn't going to move on 6-7 and you miss game.

I assumed 7 HCP too. I doubled first because I felt like it (rightsiding, or finding hearts/spades, or ...).

If you assume 7 HCP, then double then 3NT should be something like 18-25 HCP.

The one that has caught me more than once is opening 3NT third in hand, to show a hand that wants to play 3NT, only to find GIB opposite raises to 6NT with an unexceptional 7 or 8-count.

Except that I didn't learn! This idea of a 3NT opening showing a strong balanced hand is just so alien to me that even though I had seen it in a first/second hand opener, it never occurred to me that would be the meaning in third or fourth!
