Alerted as gambling 3N
Would you:
1. Double then double again escape to 4if partner passes?
2. Double and pass ditto?
3. Pass and then double ditto?
4. Anything else?

I would add 3(b)

3(b) Pass and then make opening lead.

Double then bid 4 if partner passes. If partner bids, consider slam.
Be the partner you want to play with.
Trust demands integrity, balance and collaboration.

With our normal agreements, I rank
  • 4 = NAT. Better minor, equivalent to a T/O double.
  • 4 = NAT. Could get you to the right contract when parter has a typical K x x A x x x J x x x x x
  • X = Penalty. Usually 5+ quick winners or stops in both minors. You might regret it here if a brave dummy turns up with say K x x A x x J T x x x x x
  • Pass = NAT. Hoping to double later. But you may not get the chance,

This hand could be anything from us making slam to 3nt being cold if the card gods are in a foul mood.

I think double first and pass 4 is probably right given that my regular partner would have bid with 1/2 a reason knowing that my double shows a takeout with power to the 4-level.

Yep option 2 avoids embarrassment in this case. Initial pass might even have got us a plus score.
