Assuming 2/1, I bid 2H. Assuming something else, I check my convention card first...

I would bid 2H whether playing 2/1 or not.

Also, surprised nobody got dinged by the problem and bid diamonds. Usually the order is S, H, D, C so people might erroneously think the long suit is diamonds.

very interesting hand lovera: a tricky decision as to whether to make a forcing bid in one's longest suit or go down the pub.

You might find an old Acol player who bids 3, the rest of the world bids 2

In accordling to my system and with this (more of 23 points) very strong hand (only 3 losers) i bid (preparing me to follow ..) 3 than jumping, opp pass, but partner instead says 4 that although is not cue but nat suit (and i feel as to be near Pole..) showing an (almost !) 5-4 in the blacks (opp silent). To you.

Actually I did bid 2D originally, but realised my mistake and edited my post.

Incidentally I wouldn't make a 3H bid if it was a SJS on this hand, as diamonds may be better.

Considering that no one has so far bid 3, the only possible answer to this question is "abstain". You have got uncomfortably high and have no room to eg agree on a strain.

As an Acol player even I would bid 2H. It's a classic example of when not to jump; too strong and with a second suit that isn't the one opened.

If you make a SJS, you need it to be well defined. Either a solid suit, setting trumps, or a strong 2 suiter including partner's suit.

I believe GIB plays Soloway jump shifts (good suit, usually 6+, 17+ points). If it's in your system, that's my bid. Otherwise 2.

1-2; 2 is probably the most interesting start from Responder's point of view.

I can be with you but there is an explanation. I too thought it but was strong and than quite (at that time).

And partner was an occasional advanced.

Maybe GIB would make a jump shift with this hand, but it does not come close to a Soloway jump shift by my standards because

1) The heart suit is too ratty
2) Diamonds may be the best trump suit
3) Spades may be the best trump suit.

Is this new math? I count only 17 HCP and at least 4 losers.
