Drama aside, I also support Gonzalo for real life feats.

Yes, he was a part of one of the most amazing real life "feats" ever!

Poster: Helene, Trinidad, Kenberg
Real life: second Justin, Frances, Fluffy, but it is a little unfair as I do not know what Adam, Andy, Jeff, Phil, etc have managed
Newcomer: 661_Pete, Kaitlyn (should qualify despite the previous account imho)
Helpful: Helene, Kaitlyn, wank

I will need to take some time to consider individual threads and posts. I made nominations during the year in previous years and assumed the Posties were dead after these did not come to a vote. So this year I have not been noting such threads. It is always a shame when only threads from Sep-Dec are seriously considered as everyone has forgotten the rest.

My English real good [sic] and I didn't get it, either. I guess my English is better than my sarcasm-meter.

This gives me rather an unfair advantage :)

But I will try to make up for that by nominating Diana Eva for the helpful posty. My reasoning is that she was willing to take significant time to help me make bridge movies if I was so inclined. I think it's a reasonable assumption that she has offered help to others earlier in the year and people have forgotten about it.

Does the person who started this thread win the Posty, despite the others' content which might make the thread interesting?

I don't qualify as a nominee
Why not?

since I will be doing the vote counting and I will get to know what people voted for
I don't see that as being a problem as long as you vote before you see anybody else's vote in the category in which you are nominated. Of course, if you can vote for yourself, it makes no difference but it's probably fairer to say you can't vote in a category for which you are nominated, unless you want to vote for someone else?

I can't believe that somebody wouldn't trust you to count the votes honestly.

No, it is the thread as a whole that wins, nobody gets bragging rights for it :)

The same reason so many Oscar-worthy movies come out in December.

So far we have:

Poster of the year: Trinidad, Kenberg, MrAce, Wank, Zelandakh, Helene_t, Kungsgeten

Real life acchievement : JLall, FrancesHinden, Fluffy

Newcomer of the year: 661_Pete, Kaitlyn_S. It would be nice to have one more especially if Kaitlyn doesn't want to be nominated because she has used a different ID before. IMHO Kaitlyn does qualify but of course we will respect her decision.

Most Helpful Poster of the Year: Kaitlyn_S, Diana_Eva, wank, Helene_t, Zelandakh

Does anyone object to priority voting, i.e. you can give a 2nd and 3rd vote and then we simulate run-offs like in the French and Australian (and from now on also in Maine) electoral system? Yes I know it is a bit late to discuss voting procedures. I should have brought this up before.

If anyone can make some nominations for post and thread of the year then I would be willing to extent the deadline to 30 nov.

I have one nomination for the post of the year, namelu Zel's first post in the "after opener's jumpshift" thread: http://www.bridgebas...__1#entry897117

For TotY: Stayman alternative and specifically this post from Ken as a PotY candidate. Additionally restricted choice as TotY for its comedy value and Timo's background on the Turkish coup for PotY.

Some more categories to ponder (one or two quantitative ones!)

- most moderated/reported posts
- comeback poster of the year
- most usernames used on the forums
- least missed poster who left in the last year
- longest profile
- longest signature
- most upvotes given in the calendar year
- most upvotes received in the calendar year
- most spelling misteaks per word in a post

Just noticed that helene added me to the shortlist for most helpful. I don't think admins/staff are supposed to be eligible, it is our job to help people.

I nominated you in post #25. I was unaware of any restrictions.

Thanks, Kaitlyn, I appreciate it. It's not about restrictions, just that we're here to help, so it's not extraordinary that we actually do so :)

Besides, if upvotes for admins were allowed barry would beat me by far :P

Just thinking .... Liversidge has made many good queries over the year that has elicited good responses. Could someone find a couple worth of nomination, either for thread of the year or for post of the year?

Anyway .... votes can start now.

This discussion on splinters and cue bidding was interesting and very positive, pretty much everything you would want from a thread of this type. It would be a worthy addition to the TotY list.
This thread on Rubensohl was also quite informative.

For an individual post perhaps this one but I think his strength on BBF is mostly in stimulating interesting discussion and that lends itself more towards TotY than PotY.

Leading under a king against suit contracts (http://www.bridgebas...648#entry899648) for Thread of the Year and Kaitlyn's response for post of the year.

Can we have a few more nominations in the next couple of days? And don't forget to vote, photo ID not required :)

I'd be shocked if that was the best post of the year.

I suppose that I'll nominate Stefan_O for newcomer of the year.
