MPs scoring. Yes, normally I would have just overcalled 1S on this, but I'm playing with a partner who insists that this would be too strong for an overcall. What do you do now?

Partner needs an extreme hand to bid 5C in this sequence so 6C should have chances (especially if the ♠K is onside).
But mostly the opponents have already bid 5 over 5, and could easily take a save.

Make sure you point this conundrum out to partner:) If you had been able to start with 1s after 4h p p you have an easy x. As it stands we have zero idea why p bid 5c just the difference btn x void xxxx xxxxxxxx and K void xxxx Axxxxxxx is so vast that 5c might be the limit on first hand and 7c is a monstrous favorite on the 2nd and yet both look like reasonable 5c bids. I would go with 6c mainly because if p is on the low end of their reasonable 5c bid the opps may all too easily make 5h and since there is no room for science settling in 6c will at least score well sometimes and others might convince opps to sac at 6h (much happier to x then).

I am yet to find someone getting a good score by doubling and then hiding his suit.

sounds like someone primarily interested in winning the post mortem 5s is an awfully big position to take
making the suit a pip worse (AQ5432) does not qualify for any straight flush bonus that I am aware of. It may well work
but it seems a shame to bid a moth eaten suit when we have KQJ in a known long suit p has shown even if we have to raise it a level. Another downside is 5s may not prompt a 6h bid as much as 6c and the opps may well be happy to let us play 5s when spades split horribly (undoubled).

More seriously, I'm not getting rich in 5HX (I might even get 650 poorer on a bad day!), and I don't need much from p (CA plus a useful K or DQJ as finesses are likely to win) to make 6. And if they compete, at least I will be 200 richer.

I upvoted Wesley and George but I might dbl due to pd coming from pass.

But as we aren't getting rich against 5♥X, we might as well try 6♣.
