I would try 1NT, but certainly 2 is reasonable to avoid playing 2 on a 5-1 fit.

I am bidding 2NT here (upgrading JD, and 5th C). Let's see if better bidders agree.

We agree. I think this is a bit too good of a hand to just double and rebid 1NT (showing a hand too good to O/C 1NT).

I don't agree this is worth an upg if playing X-then-1N as 18-20. Entries to partner's hand may be few and far between and our clubs need a lot of effort to set up.

Playing X->1NT as 19-21 it felt like the upgrade to 2NT idea was a joke. Probably a good idea to post ranges on a problem of this type.

We need very little from partner to make 3NT. Give him J and we likely have 4+ 3 and so if partner has QJxx(x) we are likely home. If I conservatively bid 1N we might not get to a good 3N game. At imps I would bid 2N at MP I will reluctantly (but in tempo) bid 1NT.

Do you realize you are praying for specific cards, such as J + QJxx and still can't see you are not even remotely cold for making 9 tricks? If you are gonna wish something, at least wish something that actually makes it a decent game.

Not only I can grant you J + QJxxx, but also I can make clubs split friendly for you and at the top of it I can grant you a lead so you don't have to worry about an entry to dummy for finesse. Even if RHO holds AQ they can manage to hold you down to 8 tricks,

"Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say."

Furthermore, if partner has more than those cards, partner can move over our call. Personally, I like 1N and hopefully partner won't hand us with rebidding hearts.

If x followed by 1NT is 19-21 then yes that is the path. And it may be the path anyway. The fact that 1 may be the start of a sequence showing a strong balanced hand probably should have been weighed before I responded.

well I bid 2c in hindsight I thought 1N was better and it prooved so as 2c was + 1 whereas 1N was + 2 so a much better MP score

no way really of getting to 3N p just happens to have the perfect cards

cheers

I guess that means upgrading to 22-23 really was the winner on this hand then...
