I don't care if partner is Paul Soloway (which would be quite a trick).

I pass.

Didn't someone once say that even thinking about bidding is an overbid? I agree with that someone.

Decisions like this are one reason many of us strain to open when ever we can so that we aren't likely missing anything our way by passing.

Opposite a timid lol who might have passed a 12 count to start with and would pass it again in balancing seat and whose defense is mediocre at best, I bid. Keep in mind I'm not really in the game to win in that situation.

Otherwise I pass.

thanks all I did pass but thought it was quite close. I guess p not balancing with like a 1444 11 count or something didn't help lol

With a 1444 I would balance with a lot less than 11, but we tend to trap a fair bit, his fault not yours, you don't have a bid.

Perhaps we can add extra interest to this thread by giving it a supplementary. So Q2, would you still pass if the 3rd seat opening had been 2? and Q3, how about if it were 1?

Over 2 pass. Over 1 I think we can afford an overcall at the 2-level.

Now, pard passing with 1444 and 11 seems wimpish to me lol.
