Today we had a small misunderstanding about how to show a strong one-suited minor after opps bid over our strong club. The bidding goes
1-(1), 1(5-7 with 5 spades)-(3). The problem we had misunderstanding was, which bids are for spades, NF, and own suit.
My idea was that 4m-Natural,not too strong(inviting perhaps), 4Something like Choice of Game, 4NT-Good old RCKB, onesuited slam hands bid via X and then their suit.
My partner thought that 4m(same), 4H as cue for spades, 4NT as minors, and X and then something, dont remeber :(
Anyhow the bidding went on:
4NT-5, 5, 5-6-6-(X)-6NT down 2
6 Diamonds was making because partner was with a strong diamond suit. From what i though he was probing for a spade grand(good that i had diamond support i guess)
Anyhow the question i have is how do most people play these situations?

I would think...

dbl-responsive (minors) or a very big hand
4m-nf
4H-strong spade bid
4S-to play
4N-RKC

That's analogous to...

1H (1S) 3H ?

In general, I think 3M should be forcing. So if your auction had gone...

1C (1D) 1S (3D) 3H I would think is forcing.

I would have thought you played Thrump here. Double as asking if Responder has a 6th spade or a heart stopper seems like it would work well. Then the 4m rebids are clearly forcing.

I haven't seen Thrump doubles used against fit auctions. I think I would prefer responsive/takeout/big hand. One could double and then f/u with 4H as choice of games. Should 1C (1H) 1S (3H) 4m be forcing anyway? I mean it's a partnership agreement and I would think not, but maybe it should be.
