IMP robot tourney, best hand South.

My first reaction when dummy hit was that if AJx of the enemy suit is not enough to bid 3N after partner has cue bid the suit in all probability desperate to find a guard for 3N, then when are you ever going to bid 3N in this sequence?

But then, if the Spade honours were split then it would have needed a blockage or the Ace to be the other side to make 3N, while 5 would still be there. Perhaps its judgement was not so poor?
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

Book bid is 3NT.

But after some "consideration" over dealt hands, where South has often singleton spade and not good double stopper in hearts, prevailed likely for 4D only. 3NT seems to be like 10% of the cases. 90% 4D.

6D + 1S and maybe 1H is close but maybe not good enough for 3NT. Opponents still could have straight shift in hearts or clubs. Hoping they will lead spade for sure.

Assuming partner has DK and HA as best cards.

With missing one of both and singleton in spades letting they with 5-4 split that could be a risky contract.
