I just realized that one thing that hasn't come up is how many boards per match?

Captains I need your email so we can decide on schedule, deadline, number of boards, how to solve conflict, carry over, VP scale etc. We can also start scheduling some matchs since most teams are full/near full. If others teams are full our team might accept an extra pair or we might allow for anotehr team to form if all captains agree.

I hope the league will consider making all matches of equal length
including any playoffs.

I require no prize money to compete and I would most likely frown
on having to pay a league fee to play.

IMO league starts out with a round robin where each team plays all of the
other teams once--the top 4 (head to head competition is tie breaker)
do a finals 1 vs 4 2 vs 3 with the winners facing each other for bragging
rights.

Once we get settled one match a week does not seem overwhelming.

I would like to join but still dont see a clear way to do so. Is there a
complete list of team captains somewhere??

I'd also like to add that the lure of filthy lucre is not impacting my decision to compete...

I prefer if there was no cash prize (or alternatively, if it were donated to charity)

Don't worry Richard, we'll just spend it on a nice team dinner. I'm afraid you'll have to pay your own flight to Europe though, as the prize is not quite that high. ;)

If there is an open place then I'd like to participate.
Just let me know. (or as a reserve).
(not available at CET business hours).
(..and if there is a need for a pair then I can ask my regular partner.)

Ben:

If you like, I could forward a copy of the Conditions of Contest for the Solomon Teams, the Philadelphia Unit's annual round-robin team championship. I am the coordinator of the Solomon Teams this year (and probably for years into the future, unless I can find someone to take over for me).

The basic structure of the Solomon Teams is a qualifying round-robin over six months in which teams are expected to play one match each month. A "match" consists of 2 12-board matches scored at IMPs converted to VPs (ACBL 20 point VP scale). The top 8 teams from the round-robin qualify for the KO stage (if turnout does not warrant 8 qualifiers, the quarterfinals can be skipped). The top qualifier gets to choose its quarterfinal opponent from the bottom 4 qualifying teams, the second qualifier gets its choice next from among the three remaining bottom 4 qualifying teams, and the third qualifier chooses between the remaining two teams in the bottom 4. In the semifinals, the semifinal team with the highest score in the qualifying round gets to choose its opponent from the two semifinal teams with the lowest scores in the qualifying round. And, obviously, the two winners from the semifinal matches face each other in the finals.

There does not have to be a complete round-robin (indeed, this year's Solomon Teams started with 12 teams - 7 in Flight A and 5 in Flight B, and not all of the teams play each other).

The captains are the 1st name of the teams. So players that want to participate send messages or email to the captains. Art please foward me the CC of the Philadelphia league. Hopefully captains will give me opinions on what they prefer. So far 3 captains like one match every 3 weeks and I think 3 to 4 month for 1 season is adequate so that why i prefer not to have too many teams in a RR. If captains agree we could have a 7th team but that would be my personnal limit. So we try to fill the teams first and than we add a team of not. If all goes well maybe the 2nd season we can have more teams or play 2 matchs per month.

Would not mind a 7th team.

I proposed (on the urging of some members of the team) the WBF 25 VP scale. The ACBL 30-VP scale overrewards wins, and the 20VP scale overrewards blitzes, but the WBF scale is a nice balance imo. http://www.qldbridge...0VP%20SCALE.pdf

I sent all this to Ben, but I guess for the purpose of discussion, we're proposing no HUMs and nothing brown-sticker, since no one is really going to take this seriously enough to prepare countermeasures. For the ACBL-ers, what we're proposing is something like a loose mid-chart I guess.

I have lots of open spots on a team. PM me if you are interested (individuals or pairs). Atul and I are both in Portland, OR, USA normally, if that makes a difference to you time zone wise.

SLmplicity [for anyone setting matches, note the absurd spelling]
DanMac
PaulG
GipsonA

Anyone who feels they have missed out by not receiving my rant on the merits of various VP scales should PM any of the other captains to request a copy of said rant.

Edit: Or look six posts down the thread
