I think most play 3D as forcing. Do you want to force to game on this?

I was commenting AUT vs NL on VG. Yet i couldn't find time to search VG archives how the others played. Maybe there's different ideas.

I do not consider the hand strong enough to make a game force but I do want to invite. After 2H many treat 2S as a 4 card suit invitational. This idea is quite practical as if you were holding 5S obviously you had the opportunity to transfer.

So markl me down as one who now bids 2S, 4S and invite values

Dunno what system Fucik-Purka play, maybe 2♠ would mean something else, maybe 3♦ was NF, maybe E wanted to force to game.

Playing modified expert standard (as usual) I would bid 2♠, invitational with four spades.

We play it as looking for a 4 card minor which works well here.

most Americans don't think that far ahead .

But helene and mcphee describe what works for many of us. Therefore, since hearts are mentioned first in response to Stayman, the 2S rebid ends responder's involvement.

Opener now bids 2NT, 3NT, 4S, or pass. This all is based on the premise that responder might have had to bid Stayman without either major to invite game in NT, since a direct raise to 2NT would mean something else. Some expert pairs, however, use 2S/1NT to invite game in NT (among other possible meanings).

Bottom line: the question about the sequence can only be answered in context of your other agreements.

Many Americans play that 2S is invitational with exactly 4 spades here. Not far from what we have.

Don't you make 5C on the likely singleton diamond lead on the auction:

1N-2C-2H-2S-3C-4C-5C

By our methods 2S is GF so a slight overbid, and 2S does not guarantee spades.
