From personal experience, I think it will likely be very popular. Laptop users will rejoice at the enhanced battery life and it's seems more responsive in general (vis-a-vis Vista). And not to mention, they fixed the UAC ("Do you really want the program to do this?") prompts.

I'll watch the thread with interest but I don't plan on using a beta version of windows unless I get paid for it.

The other day, I had a question on Youtube and used the help function and got my answer on the first try!
Perhaps having an online dictionary of all of the contents of windows is not only ridiculous but inefficient and frustrating. New search techniques and references to other searches and question/answers seems to be the way to go.
M$ has always been slow on the uptake but that is the result of being so massive.

PS: And it will probably require 8GB+ of RAM to run at a decent speed; they of the code bloat

Seriously, I'm guessing we have Vista 1.1 coming out - and it might just work. That doesn't mean I'm going to install it any time soon - nor let it come preinstalled (i.e. pay for the thing).

The Beta is free and available to the first 2.5 million people who download it, starting January 9, 2009. However, because Microsoft isn’t providing technical support for the Beta, we strongly recommend that only experienced computer users sign up.

There are prevailing very postive opinions in german specialist publications about working of W7 in their testing procedures.

We are all connected to each other biologically, to the Earth chemically, and to the rest of the universe atomically.
We're in the universe, and the universe is in us.

I will say it's almost never a good idea to install a new OS on an old machine -- Better to wait until you get a new one.

I have read about some tests with W7 and older PC's. They run it without any problems even on an "old" 1GHz machines, various older lap tops, etc...
