Scoring: MP

(1) - ?

Having played this game for 35 years, it is rare that I see something that I have never seen before. But this one in a BBO ACBL matchpoint game was new to me.

My RHO held this hand in second seat. It might take you some time before you come up with the call that he found.

1.

It is usually a good thing when your partner has 5 card support for your overcall. Not this time. The opps wound up in 5x going for 500 (it could have been 800) at equal nonvul when partner tabled xxx Jxxx KJ98x J.

Needless to say, I was impressed.

Could you get a more obvious 1NT overcall?

Unless 1NT is RUNT or something else strange...

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

yup. good lead director. After partner as got in to lead them three times I may still have an entry to cash the established 4th round. Actually I managed to guess the overcall. The clue is in the fact that the Diamond pips are named.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

The 5D bid was worse than the 1D bid.

IMO
  • Over 1: 1N = 10, _X = 8, _P = 4, 1 = 2.
  • Over 1: 4 = 10, 5 = 8, 3 = 6, _P = 5, 2 = 4, 3 = 3. _X = 1.
In spite of JLall's condemnation, I think 5 is quite reasonable :D

LOL.

Obviously this hand is too strong for a 1 overcall. The appropriate action is to double first and then bid diamonds. :D
