I am a site adminstrator. I click it often to see what threads are getting a lot of lookers, especially if a thread is getting a little too much attention and boardering on possible site violations. Also, if i am about to log off, but i posted something and i want to see the reply too, i click to see if anyone is replying to that thread. But still, i guess i use it only 10% of the time i log on, if that.

I use that function all the time. And the one right next to it: 'Member Name' or whatever. For some reason posts are more enjoyable to read if one of my friends is also reading it

They're basically the same, the only differences is the sort order -- alphabetical vs. time of last click.

I guess seeing that your friend is in the same location as you gives you feeling that you're in a chat room rather than a less convivial forum.

When someone was replying to a post, the old software only showed that they were posting in a particular forum without saying which thread, now it shows the thread name.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.
