RHO you
. 3 . ??

Your options are just pass, dbl for take-out or some nr. of hearts, natural. You can also try 4, but pard will take that for a 55.

Note: pard is an ok player, but you don't know what he will make of dbl followed by taking 4 to 4.

3. I have the right shape in the minors, and I do not double with 4-6 in the majors unless the 6-card suit is very weak.

3 feels simple.

I am good enough for this.

3 is clear, no real alternative.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Hi,

you either pass or bid 3H.
I think 3H is borderline, and porbably the
bid I would choose at the table,
but I may pass, if I would take the time to
think it over.

With kind regards

Torn between pass and 3

I'd like a better hand for a 3 level overcall, however, I have Diamond shortage. Partner will pass with a lot of balanced hands that could produce game.

The ideal way of barring your partner from entering the auction on most occasions.

3, a bit overbid but it was their idea to preempt...
But I have about 7 loosing tricks, this should work if partner has or .
I'm not sure what I will do after 3NT from partner. Would you pass?

3. With this shape I could also double and convert 4 to 4 but this hannd is too weak for that. Besides, if I double I won't know what to do over partner's 3NT. I don't want him to leave the double in.

3: seems clear: it is a minimum but we cannot pass. Partner will feel constrained if we pass and he has, for example, some 4=2=3=4 hand with 10+ points or so: he will be afraid to double because he cannot handle our bidding on a short(ish) suit.

Thx all:

I tried double, thinking that if I bid 3 and LHO raised diamonds, pard would not bid spades with 4-2 or 5-2 in the majors and a couple of points.

In retrospect, I think 3 is better. The situation I envisoned, where double might be better, may happen, but in all other cases where it doesn't happen, hearts will play as well as spades or better. Pard would have to have like a 4-1 in the majors for spades to play better. Unlikely.

In practice anything you bid is ok. Pard has loads of hearts and will bid them regardless :P He held:
