Extra long hearts that will not run at notrump.

Yesterday I managed to keep a straight face as 3NT declarer struggled to digest that I had taken out his only entry to dummy containing KQJTxxx opposite his stiff Ace.

This isn't a good 12 so I wouldn't be bidding 3N in the first place, but we're not talking about a regular partner

Strange comment, this is such a good 12 I'd say it's closer to 13.5 or 14, 2 aces and a KJ109 are way more than 12

An only slightly manufactured 2 is forcing and will give partner the opportunity to further describe his hand, now you are better placed to decide whether to bid 3NT or not (you would probably opt for 4 instead).

Sure, but only an explicit agreement will stop partner from taking 2 _in competition_ as a suggestion of a possible strain.

No such agreement (if you fully buy into the 'Style' concept, at any rate) and he *will* take it as a suggestion of a possible strain. He is free to raise clubs (with 4 cards, in our system) and we might even buy into that if it starts to look better than hearts or NT. If not we still have all options open.

Yep - you're right, but I'd still be bidding 2 and end in 4

There is no rush to bid 3NT in response to a 1 bid. If you can show a suit and give your partner a 1-round force to get more info about their hand then do so. 2!c was the correct response.

Hi,

I would have bid 3NT.

Sry, I know, what I want to play oppossite an opening bid,
I have a stopper, I dont mind p pulling towards 4H, I bid 3NT,
anything else is ....

Obv. the q is, do I think, hands exist, on which I would bid1Sx
3NT with a single? The answer is yes, but I am not good at
constructing hands, and the overall systems comes into play.

Due to this I am NOT pulling, if a single is out: pulling gets a lot
more attractive.

E.g. I happen to play NFB, which makes a 2C bid impossible, and
the only forcing bid 2S as well, since this showes a fit.
The only alternative would be X or pass, and I dont want to play
1SX, and I am not looking for whatever, hence X is out.
Obv. NFB are bad and no sane peoble would agree to play them.
But you would also face issue, if you happen to have agreed to play
xfer after intervention.

With kind regards
Marlowe
