ui rules are designed to protect the non offending side. They do not require one to make "suicidal" bids/calls just because there is a remote possibility they could be right. I would be happy in a slam opposite AJTxx Axx xx xxx and yet there are situations where even 3s can go down. Does that make it a logical alternative to pass over 3c because I can imagine a miniscule chance 3s might fail? While making only 3s is a bit more common than going down, that % is dwarfed compared to the vast probability of making game or even a slam.
The U/I makes looking for slam VERY reasonable. Therein lies the problem. w/o the UI it becomes much more reasonable to just bid game. w/o knowing all of your partnership continuations, searching for slam becomes a lot more speculative opposite a minimum overcall. Thus it seems the ethical conclusion would be to just bid game and not make any slam moves. This would not stop you from competing further if the opps continue to bid.
