you hold K,Q 10,8,7 spades K,9,8,5 of hearts and A,10,8,6 in clubs. You hear me open 1D which is either a balanced 13-15 HCP (and may be 5M332) or it's long Diamonds or its 5-4 in the minors . Latter two hands would be 11-15 HCP

Actual bidding went 1D-1H-1NT (showing 13-15 HCP and denies both 4 card Majors) -2S - 3H-3NT ( 4S is cold). My hand was A,J 9 in spades A 10 4 hearts Q,J !0,9 6 Diamonds and Q 5 clubs

Hi, why did I bid my shorter major first?

Could you please show the hands using the forum hand diagram function?

1 is awful, you should bid the longer major first. More generally, you should be familiar with your notrump ladder, and with both bidding balanced hands and bidding opposite balanced hands. For me this would be an XYNT auction.

Please explain this nt ladder.

Opener s bidding looks fine. They described their hand, showed their 3-cd support in responder s (presumed) long suit then passed 3NT with a quacky hand in the minors where responder seems to hold values.

OTOH responder f*** up the bidding by not bidding S before H. Then it would be plain sailing, 1NT rebid by opener and whichever relay you play over this will help you discover the 53 S fit.

But with both hands with solid slow D stoppers facing the void, 3NT does not look like a horrible contract.

Thanks, yeah I agree my son should have bid 1S over my 1D and duh - we both forgot we are playing XYZ which would solve the problem. SO 1D-1S-1NT-2D (game force)

Perfect
When bidding majors over 1m opening always start with the longer suit.
55M down, start with highest
44M up, start with lower.

I don't see the problem, 3N is nearly as cold as 4 (unless it's MPs)

It was matchpoint. I made 3NT plus 1 and the field made 4s plus 1. Think I got a 30 percent on the board
