This hand cost us the win in our pairs event

W leads 6, plan the play, leads are A/2/4, carding is standard count

Really nobody wants to take a crack at this ?

The issue is that you are in 3N rather than 4, so you have to make the same number of tricks in NT.

There are ways of making 11 which will give you all the matchpoints, rather than the 10 I made which was 1/3 of them and emough to win comfortably.

OK, it seems this has attracted no interest.

If you assume W has Q976x(x) and A, consider what happens when you cash 6 hearts, you can discard a spade and 2 diamonds, now what does E discard down to ? Must keep 2 spades and 2 clubs, or you can exit with a spade or overtake the club so can only keep 2 diamonds. Now cash 2 diamonds, and all they can do is keep 2 clubs and 2 spades. Come down to 2 clubs and 2 spades yourself, overtake the club K and exit a club and they have to give you a spade.

Very sorry, only saw it now after a few busy days and time on BBO dedicated to following up previous posts and my own I/A thread.
Yes I agree that cashing 6 hearts is a sure route to 11, even assuming Defenders are on the ball.

It is within the constraints of the signal for spades. The really annoying thing is that I could still have made it having cashed the K too early so I couldn't overtake.

Imagine this 5 card ending:

You know W has A and one more, x, Qx (yes alternatives exist, but this was the position I was in)

If W's other spade is the Q, you have to do what I did, play off 2 diamonds and run the J which also works if the other is the 10. Unfortunately E had Q10, where the winning line is to play 3 rounds of diamonds, or cash one diamond and play a spade witholding the K.
