Can’t sign in to play Sign In

I have a first generation iPad Air running IOS 12.5.7 I can’t download and use the app , it just crashes- when I go to the website using Safari and attempt to sign into play- the blue screen comes up and just spins that it’s loading and it never loads... my grandfather is 100 and bed bound and playing bridge with his friend is one of his best times of 5e week... please help
