This hand interested me. Being quite experienced with GiB I passed. A few risked 3NT and many people tried to get to 5 Diamonds

(ACBL MPs)

For those who can't guess what happens you end up in unmakeable spade game or diamond slam.

I've seen quite good authorities recommend that if you're playing MP and

1. If you've bypassed 3N AND
2. You believe that 3N was makable

then you might want to be much more aggressive about bidding 6m because 5m isn't going to score well

Personally, I'd be surprised if GIB had any such logic built into it

I realise 5M doesn't score well very often but it was in this case the right contract IMO

At least it wasn't wrong and would have scored very well🙂
