I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

I wanted to clarify before you grab your three enthusiastic team mates, that's all... Didn't mean to offend you sorry.

Forgive me for my rudeness. No offense taken.

I am, however, interested in the format. Will there be multiple brackets or some other means of reducing the field to one? Or do you just plan to play 3 or 4 rounds to fine tune your coding?

Multiple brackets.

This type of game is more suitable for longer events, weeks, or even a month. Not just 3-4 rounds. This test is mostly to check how the brackets and cuts work.

It's some sort of an individual, not teams.

You join, play with 3 robots and get compared randomly with another player. A bit like the Arena Challenges, but you keep playing until you get eliminated.

I see. The trouble with robot events is I cannot take them seriously. I do enter some free tournaments with robots, but I usually do them when I am watching TV. Actually I worry that I will get into bad habits when I play without counting, planning the play, etc.

The thing is to remember that you're playing against the other humans, not against the robots.

Hi all,

We're experimenting with a new tournament format, which consists in a series of chained challenges, where losers are knocked out. It's supposed to run as a series, over several days or weeks, and reduce the field until there is only one winner.

Wanna help us test it?

I'm guessing this tourney will be run on the same format as chess tournaments . i.e. a "Swiss System"

It will be hard to run a Swiss system as in chess since players are rank by ratings prior to start of tourney. This is to avoid having strong players paired against each other in the early rounds. No rating systems exist here. Also, Swiss systems is not a knockout. All participants keeps playing.

Yes but the robot opponents and partner are ludicrous, and it does not interest me how other people manage with them because it is not really bridge.

Since it's advertised as a knockout, why would you guess it would be Swiss?

Like some of us BBO regulars, GIB is a bit past its sell-by-date. It has started to act quite strangely. It's still better than most humans. More recent robots like WBridge5 and Jack are much better. Vampyr is likely to be proved right soon: If DeepMind takes an interest in Bridge. they will probably take the game to a new super-human level (as they already have done, with Go, Chess and StarCraft)

This is not a pair game. It's an indy with robots.

I'm with you. Robots don't get tired and don't miscount. Bidding can't ever be perfect (a 50% game will always fail 50% of the time), and declarer play will always be limited by necessary percentage plays, but if the robots ever learn to signal on defense....

Registrations closed.

The Tournament is posted in COMPETITIVE -> Free Tournaments. Look for the BBO Forums Challenge KO. You can click to play it, everyone who voted is pre-registered.

It will be very quick for this first attempt:

Day 1 - Monday. Qualifiers. Field gets reduced to 8
Day 2 - Tuesday. Quarterfinals.
Day 3 - Wednesday. Semifinals.
Day 4. Tursday. Finals.

12 boards, IMPs, not best hand.

You must play each day (unless you get eliminated ofc). You have 24 hours to complete each round (midnight to midnight US Eastern Time)

Good luck!

I have played my first match.

Suggestion: After I completed my set, a pop-up window (like those for daylong tournaments) got automatically generated. Given that these are 1-on-1 matches, perhaps the software should be configured so that the pop-up gets generated only after the final results.

Curiosity: You wrote "Day 1 - Monday. Qualifiers. Field gets reduced to 8". How does one round of a tournament reduce 63 participants to 8? I thought this was a heads-up style set up where I will be paired randomly with one of the other 62 players and our scores will be compared.

The first deadline has passed, but I received no results. The second round appears to be open to all 63 participants again.

I didn't see Diana's announcement. I seem to have missed the 1st round. Hence, reasonably enough, BBO won't let me play today

Didn't see any yesterday (but may have missed it). Started playing the challenge today but am convinced I did not finish all boards. Wanted to continue later. The challenge is still there, still green, but when I open it it claims "round completed"... ???
