Partner deals, all NV at IMP scoring.

Playing 2/1 with an expert partner; you've had some discussion but none that is particularly relevant to this auction beyond that an immediate 3 would've been preemptive:

1 - 1 - 2 - 3
3 - Pass - ???

What's going on, and what's your call?

Partner is showing at least a spade feature and is forcing an intelligent call. 3NT seems intelligent to me.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I don't like 3NT with the stiff Ace and 5-5 when partner couldn't double and I don't want to bid 5 with 1st round control in hearts and a nice hand. 4 would be nonforcing for me so I am stuck with 4s. Hope partner doesn't get too excited.

3NT doesn't seem very intelligent to me. If partner's 3S call has as little as AKxx xxx x KQxxx he'd have no real reason not to pass 3NT on that

This is not what I would bid 3S with, or pass. If he can count and think, he knows that I have 5 clubs and the stiff heart Ace, which is what I have. That's not a 3NT hand.

If ha instead had something like AKxx xxc AKx Kxx or Kxx Kxx AKx KQxx, he would pass.

partner knows we are not no trump oriented because we cuebid and because he is known to be looking at three hearts.

Ya I think 3s created a gf, 4c now. All the more so if 4d would be rkc in clubs as I don't want to go past rkc ask.

Not sure I get all these delicate game tries with 3s at imps, trying to stop in 4c.

I think 3S is very likely to be a hand like the ones Frances posted, a 4-3-1-5 or 4-3-2-4 with xxx in hearts, offering a second place to play since partner was unable to bid 3NT himself.

I do think 3S is forcing, too - if 2H didnt already set up a GF it came very close to it- and I will just go for a nice quiet 5C.4C would sound slammish.

Partner's hand:

AKQx
Txxx
x
KJ9x

Six clubs is a (somewhat lucky) make. Five clubs was the call selected at the table, making six for a push board.
