MPs
All Vulnerable

Your partners 2 bid showed a 4c and 5+c. Strength similar to a one-level overcall and depending on distribution, 7 to 17 HCP.
Opps: 1 was a 4c+ ; and 2 was non-forcing.
2NT and 3 are good raises of and . Direct raises are preemptive.
You bid?

4 sounds like a standout. I don't think 2 buys it and I don't want the opponents to have an easy guess.

All vulnerable. Jumping to the 4 level looks like a good way to go for a number opposite nothing (or opposite very little).

I want a spade lead and I have spade support. I will venture 2 but nothing more.

Thank you for the answer. Actual NS hands and bidding:

MPs
All Vulnerable

Bidding:
- 1 was a 4c+
- 2 bid showed a 4c and 5+c. Strength similar to a one-level overcall and depending on distribution, 7 to 17 HCP.
- 2 was non-forcing
- 3 preemptive (no very clear agreements on this, but I assume that 2NT is still a good -raise and 3 would be a good -raise.
South did bid 3, planning to show his spade support the next round.
North did bid 5, assuming that he would make only 3 tricks in defense.
Comments welcome.

4 will make against any 3-2 spade break and clubs 2-1.

5 requires 2-1 clubs and no spade loser.

I suspect that partner will bid 4 over my 2 bid if he bid 5 on the actual auction.

4 is likely to make anytime 4 fails, so it is not that bad unless something really ugly happens - like 5-0 spades. Even then you should be able to scramble for 8 tricks in spades.

I don't get it. You have a toy which allows you to show 4 and 5 , and your pd has 4 card spades and he is not bidding them ? Especially when he decided to play at 4 level ? MP ? And it is stand out huh ?

I mean cmon, it is hard to find secondary 4-4 major fit in normal methods after 2/1 minor over call (at least harder than using the toy OP has) Now that it comes, and we have a 4-4 spade fit, but we fall in love with clubs ?

Is it because this is in forums or are you bidding like that in real life too ? I hope it is the former.Posted Image

Bidding anything but 4 is beyond me.
