I see in this month's Bulletin that there is a new electronic device policy that will allow mobile phones
in the playing area at all tournaments, including NABC+ events.
Good move ACBL
"However, phones must remain out of sight and must be completely turned off. Significant penaltoes will be incurred should
players violate this rule"
So nothing has really changed for the players but let's hope there has been some direction given so that the policy is uniformly enforced.

There was a full thread in Bridgewinners about this....rehashing all the for-and-against arguments that we all knew.
I, for one, am content with the revised policy. Treat players like adults, but lower the boom when such treatment proves unjustified.

The only thing that changes for the players is they can pull out their phone as they leave the room now without worrying about it. Which is a little nicer than the prior situation.

I also can't blackmail Jdonn any more, threatening to tell the director that he brought his cell phone into the playing room.

I am happy they have changed the actual rule to be the same as what was the enforced rule before.

Not everyone broke the rule. Typically if I was playing professionally I would not, and if I wasn't I would. It was a huge PITA to not have my phone on me, coordinating dinners and meeting people was a joke without it, but I wasn't gonna risk some fluke where someone runs into me and my phone falls out of my pocket or something and I lose my job lol. So personally I'm really happy about this change.
