EW play 4-card majors. With a 4-card major and a 4-card minor they always open the major.

West leads 2 (4th), you play low from dummy, and RHO plays the jack.

There are some entry problems, my best guess is to win Q and play for all aces to be in LHO's hand. Aim for 4, 2, 2 and 1

Start with a heart, if LHO is 4342, 5242 or 4243 he will duck this, locked on dummy play K, if LHO wins and clears diamonds its easy, get to hand with spades and play another heart, defence only has 2 1 1 to cash.

If LHO rejects to win A come back to hand with spades, and cash 3 spades discarding a club from dummy.
If LHO has only 4 spades cash 4th spade pitching another club before playing a heart up. LHO will eventually have to play a diamond himself.
If LHO has 5 spades he is 5242, duck a club while we have a spade to stop the suit.

I can't improve on fluffy's line.

Edit: On second thought, I'll try small club after winning DQ in case LHO has singleton ace or AJ of clubs.

Thanks Fluffy. I had a feeling I'd misplayed it.

Are opps playing weak or strong no trump ?

If opps are playing weak, then you know W is 5x4x or 6x4x, and playing on clubs is not silly, but playing on hearts looks better, it's difficult to see a holding where it goes wrong.

Tom Townsend did. I rather feebly ended up taking a finesse against J, but got away with it.

Strong. In the top division of the English premier league, I think there is only one pair playing a 12-14 notrump, and one playing 10-12 at favourable. How times have changed.
