After P P 1N (strong) I'm thinking that double as penalty is more attractive than for other seats. We play a DONT-type defense now, but to prevent psyches and accommodate the likelihood of fourth hand having points, should we be reverting to penalty here?

As I play a light 1M scheme, my passed partner
cannot have 10 with a Major. So yes, penalty,
AND expect a minor suit lead.
Much more so when opponents are Vul. Hope 500+ bonanza.
How else to get which partner has the 6-7 that
swings the balance of power?

I think that it is a good idea to play double as penalty there.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

A few expert pairs play weak NT defence to a 3rd seat strong NT.
Very important if they are nv vs Vul (or possibly even just nil vul).

Yes. Playing DONT against third seat NV NTs is flat out crazy to me. You deserve to get psyched or 13 points with 6 card minors or anything of that nature.
