it was the last board, matchpoints, but not that it would have mattered

the score was not well, because of a bidding misunderstanding and a costly defensive error

the hand did not have many "points", but it had 5 quick tricks and one of those where the books say is good either for offense or defense

partner is on the conservative side, so, i bid 4 spades.



we made 1 spade, 2 hearts, one diamond,four clubs as we dinked declarer.

down 6, 1400

the five level sir, belongs to the opponent

That looks like the bidding from a pick-up partner a few days ago. If he had 12+ hcp, he felt it a moral obligation to compete to the 4 level, no matter how many times I passed. I had never seen so many penalty doubles coming my way.
