Many possible things to comment on, but my largest impression is that if north's 3 didn't promise extras, why didn't he bid slam at his last turn? AK AK???

Agree with Josh, in that two AK combinations are definitely worth more than 5D. This is the problem with 3D not showing any extras. When will he show them?

NS aka the system. If you start to limit your hand after the 4 diamond fitbid- good luck.

But in the system North was more at fault then his partner.
