Currently if you get 50% or better the result is displayed black, otherwise red. I would prefer if there was a three color scheme, in spirit showing "above average", "average" and "below average". Specifically I would define the average region as being within 1 standard deviation of the mean result. Maybe red for below, green for above, and black for the 1 standard deviation region. This would give a truer sense of whether the result was typical, good or bad.

I agree with this. I think it would work well for IMPs too, like if you get 0-0.5 or so. Another formula worth considering is using black for just the median result. The standard deviation would probably work best for IMPs regardless, though.

For readability/accessibility, I would also suggest blue for the better-than-average color, since most "pure greens" turn out bad against white. A "roulette green" would probably be fine though.

And 5% of males have red/green colour-blindness.

I am not wedded to specifically red #FF0000 and green #00FF00. Variants of the colors which are friendly to the colorblind would be fine. #228833 for green and #AA3377for red should be visibly distinct for most colorblind people which still coming across as "good" and "bad".

The numbers are still there. The color coding is an enhancement that's useful for the 95% of people who aren't color-blind, but it's not necessary to understand the results.

If you use magenta instead of red 100% of your customers will be happy.
