I guess the answers I got were sufficiently different enough to poll this.

1m - (3Y) - Dbl

Dbl establishes a GF starting at what suit Y?

never, you could X pretty light so I would feel capable of passing 4m (where m is the minor partner opened). ie 1C 3S X p 4C. I would also always feel comfortable passing 3M so I wouldn't consider 1m 3H X to ever be GF.

Agree. A new suit at the 3 level is GF, but a negative x doesn't establish a GF.

Hi,

Never.

The min requirements for a neg. X at the 3 level
are around 10/11 HCP.
This means the 4 level will sometimes be too high.

We had the discussion that in the sequence

1C - (1S) - X - (Pass)
3D - ...

it was claimed, that 3D was a reverse and forcing,
because the X just promised hearts and only hearts.
You may or may not buy this, but this argument does
certainly not hold any longer, when it comes to neg. X
on the 3 level.
Some times you will just be force to make a card showing
double, and this means you will be hard pressed to find
a fit sometimes.

With kind regards
Marlowe

You would really take 1C 3D X as game forcing? I'm doubtful :P
