Scoring: MP

(P) - 1* - (1) - 1**
(4) - 4 - (P) - P
(5) - P - (P) - 5
(P) - P - (X) - All Pass

* Open all 10 counts
** Promises 5 spades

5 would have been down 2 as spades were 3-2 and the J was in front of the KQT and diamonds were 4-3 (The A is behind the K, so no misguess is possible). 5x was down 1 (could have been 2).

The call I am going to blame is the pass of 5 by South, who should have doubled since if he passes North will think he has more offense and a 4th trump. Plus he has a reasonable shot to beat it anyway.

I believe I would have replicated all of the other actions.

In my opinion, North has no business bidding on; sure he has a singleton and a double fit, but he has the minimum number of trumps and almost all his values in the side suit. I wouldn't double 5 being South.

Agree with the German sage here. South's hand isn't really defensive and doesnt mind a 5S call by pard. Apparently he guessed correctly over 4H with a pushy 4S.

I've ben told I bid 5 over 5 too much but it wouldn't occur to me with that aceless drek N holds.

I think I would dbl 5 as Sourth, but, if I pass, so should North. You don't make guesses with weak hands unless solicited.

I think I would have been defending 5H undoubled. I don't like 5S from South but double from either hand is a bit aggressive.

Completely agree.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
