Lord knows that no one else has ever done anything like that...

Oh wait... The French have a National bureaucracy that focuses on just this issue. In Quebec you have the Office de la langue française which regularly issues fines if aren't behaving in an appropriately bi-lingual fashion.

The're also a wide variety of nativist groups here in the US that focus on just the same sorts of issues.

There's plenty to complain about the new Iranian regime. (The fall of the reformist government best exemptified by Seyyed Mohammad Khatami has to be considered one of the worst developments of our the whole Iraq fiasco.)

Why bother focusing on the word for pizza?

I have to Agree with Richard.

That regime is executing people whos only crime is their sexual preference. And Yahoo rants about the Farsi word for Pizza.

i had no idea other countries did the same thing (and in the usa some get upset just over the *idea* of making english the official language)... but i didn't take the yahoo article as ranting :P ...
