Scoring: IMP

1-1-2-2
3-3-pass-4
all pass

The auction started nicely enough, but quickly went downhill.
Despite the nice D fit, I found the rest of my hand
to have little value aside from 2 or 3 Spade ruffs.
The K looks like toast and the may never produce a trick.
Does this hand merit a call other than 4?

I think starting with a fit jump might have helped you out later in the auction. Your K looks like wasted values and your spade void has been downgraded somewhat as partner's second suit. However, 5 card support is nothing to be sneezed at.

If pard rates to have a 5161, then I guess 5 is in order :)

Once partner has overcalled 1D, I wouldn't stop out of game.
(Remember, 1D is usually a very constructive call: because it takes no space away from the opponents it should have sound values.)

Partner has shown extra values with the 3S bid: he's prepared to play in 4redsuit opposite no diamond or spade fit.

It's possible game will go off via a club lead through at trick one and a heart loser (pity we can't declarer diamonds) but partner could have

KQxx
x
KQxxxx
Ax

when 6D is a very good spot

And that hand isn't obviously worth a 3S call to my mind.

I considered jumping in diamonds or q-bidding clubs but the best part of my hand (before the Spade bid) was the 6 card Heart suit and chances of game in hearts.

I also would never stop short of game once partner overcalls 1D.

In my mind you have shown something like Qx AQxxxx Kx xxx (could be weaker as I play 2H as non-forcing). In particular, you have not shown diamond support, just given preference.

Never showing support when you have 5 good diamonds and a void is....
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Guilty as charged. I felt that the auction would not stop at 4D but that I was buying time to see if a 4H preference was forthcoming. Perhaps this was masterminding, or just plain ignorance, on my part. The fact that pard held
KT984 x KQ965 Ax was not an issue. (for him at least) I think that 1C 1S 2C 2H 3C 3D... ?4C? by me ... 4D ...5D would have been more sensible.

My concern is 2h forcing? Many might say no it is not in the age of random freebids.

Over a 1d overcall and 2c by RHO 3H seems safe enough, whatever it means. Over a 1s overcall and 2c bid by RHO, x as takeout seems ok.
