I have never worked out how to load a lin file from `myhands`to these forums so that I can post the complete hand, auction and play.
With the old forums it was a simple process using Wayne`s lin convertor.

Can someone help, please.

So here is what you do Basically, get the lin file from the movie found on the traveller page, and substitute in the text as shown in the code snippet below.

Here is a hand I played online, I have put it in code...
http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=pn|inquiry,ilane,wgcr,jmcw|st%7C%7Cmd%7C3S467QHKD467C45JKA%2CS35H67TQADQKC2368%2CS2TKAH4589D28JACT%2C
%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%205%7Csv%7Cn%7Cmb%7C1D%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1S%7Cmb%7C2H%7Cmb%7C2S%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C3S%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4S%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CC
2%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%
7CH8%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CC9%7C
pc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cmc%7C11%7C

Then you replace
http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?

with
[hv=

Then you add...
]400|300|[/color]comments[/hv]

to the end If you do all this correctly, it will look like this in "text" mode,
[hv=lin=pn|inquiry,ilane,wgcr,jmcw|st%7C%7Cmd%7C3S467QHKD467C45JKA%2CS35H67TQADQKC2368%2CS2TKAH4589D28JACT%2C

And like this on the page
See it works. Don't forget the last close bracket BEFORE the vetical and horizonal numbers.

Hope that helps.

It is best to use the format from the traveller since the way you posted the hand will be missing is a month or two when the hands are no longer current.

I tried this and it doesn't work- I get a blank tableau.

My lin doesn't look anything like yours- no % (vertical lines instead) and no

in the original file.

We've had this question asked about a half-dozen times over the past month or so. Can we please pin this thread, so people might find it in the future? Thanks.

It should be made more general- how to post a hand?

RenemPard, you had hard returns in the file you pasted in. This is why it didn't show the auction of the play. I edited your file and only removed these hard returns, to get what is shown... Try pasting your source again, and see how to find those returns and eliminate them. If you copy the html directly, you will not have this problem.

This is nothing like your file. I just downloaded the lin file, edited it with notepad and copied it into this post. What am I doing wrong?

Don't download anything. Look at the hand in myhands: http://online.bridge...time=1340078400
and copy and paste what you see in the gray sub-heading area (below the blue top part) into the forum to get your starting point.

How do I insert a single hand plus the bidding, into this forum? And make it anonymous (no players names). And can I shift myself to the South position?

If this works, could someone tell me please what they think of the bidding sequence?

It works OK for me:

You shouldn't have "[/red]" before "Just testing", though.

Thank you for your reply barmar but
1. I deleted "[/red]" from the code line ... still didn't work
2. had a look at your code line of the hand and it seems to show "[/red]" - although yours works
Anyway, it's not important because I still can't get it to work with or without.

EDIT:
I copied your code line below ... and now I am completely lost .... it works ! I will examine the 2 code lines to see if I can work it out.
Did you have a look at the bidding on the hand? What did you think of it and would you bid the same in the East seat?

No, I didn't. If you want to ask about bridge, post the hand in one of the bridge-related forums.

Can the hand editor, or anything, be used to create hand with only NS cards?
Here is what I wanted to do:

Create a NS deal.
Create the same deal with various layouts of the EW cards.
Discuss this with people by providing the tinyurl address

I was looking at
http://www.bridgebas...ared-deals.html
and all the deals seem to include all four hands. I assume I am missing something.

I believe if you just use the hand editor and only provide cards to North/South, it will work fine.

To be honest, I never use the hand editor - often I want to grab a hand I played, remove some information (eg partner or opponents cards or bidding) - I just edit the URL directly.

Consider this URL:

http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=smerriman&s=SAKQJT92HA4DQ3CKT&wn=Robot&w=SH932DT9654CA7642&nn=Robot&n=S8HQJT8765D872CJ9&en=Robot&e=S76543HKDAKJCQ853&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=PP1S(Major%20suit%20opening%20--%205+%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)PPP&p=SAD4S8S3SKC2H5S5SQD5D2S7SJC4D8S6STD6D7S4CTCACJC5DTH8DAD3DKDQD9H7HKHAH2H6S9H3C9C3CKC6HQCQS2C7HJC8H4H9HTDJ

The format is actually quite readable:

sn, wn, nn, en = names of players
s, w, n, e = cards of players
d = dealer (n/e/s/w)
v = vulnerability (o for nobody, e for e/w, n for n/s, b for both)
b = 12 (board number at top left)
a = auction (if you ignore the alerts, it's a simple format: PP1SPPP)
p = cards played
(there's also a parameter for early claims, like c=12 I think).

All you do is provide the info you want - eg if you remove everything except north and south cards and you get this simple URL which works nicely:

http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?s=SAKQJT92HA4DQ3CKT&n=S8HQJT8765D872CJ9

Yes, I see, thanks.

I had used this sort of thing when posting hands in forum discussions, but it had not occurred to me that I could make it work outside that setting. Nice and simple.
